My name is Ross Burns and I love being a carpenter. I caught the bug at about age 4 when a new house was being built next door. I loved being on the building site then and I love being on building sites now. In NZ I took woodwork at school and came top in year 10 (the last year they teach it) winning the HC kitchens prize for woodwork In 1980, after completing a 1 year Carrington institute Certificate in Building, I was chosen for a 4 year (8000 hours) carpentry apprenticeship with Fletcher development and construction With Fletchers I worked on a range of projects from a reservoir to shopping centres to luxury hotels. Also during this time I continued my studies and before completing my apprenticeship in 1984 I obtained my Trade Certificate and Advanced Trade Certificate in Building. After moving to Australia in the late 80’s I moved into kitchen manufacture for several years before once again wanting to be out on building sites, working with several builders in Brisbane, house building and formworking. In the early 2000’s I moved to Byron bay and subcontracted as a foreman carpenter on several million dollar plus homes in the Byron hinterland. But Brisbane was calling and I returned in 2009 to renovate my own house before tackling the rest of Brisbane. Over the last few years I have renovated and repaired everything from 100 year old Queenslanders to post war and contemporary homes, I have built patios and decks, installed kitchens and renovated bathrooms. I have also installed doggie doors and repaired (human) doors and windows and other maintenance issues. I have an eye for detail, everything must fit just right, and I actively work to ensure that the parts coalesce to a coordinated whole. In this day and age of ‘slap it together’ I take the time to do everything properly (especially the bits you can't see) to ensure my clients are happy with the end result (now and in the future) After all these years I still get excited when I see buildings under construction and I'm always curious to see other peoples design solutions. I love to take older poorly laid out designs (sometimes dark and dingy) and bring them up to the 21st century and make them open and light. If this sounds like I'm the sort of tradesman you'd like to work with then give me a call on 0408 472 342 to discuss your next project and how I can help you bring it to fruition.
